Last night we paid a visit to Takeshi Yamazaki's Me We Gym in Yoyogi, Tokyo. Yamazaki is a very accomplished BJJ black belt and professional MMA fighter, having fought in major events such as DREAM, DEEP and Shooto. He's also a member of the famous Grabaka Team and a Reversal RVDDW sponsored fighter.

Me We Gym has a beautiful entrance that resembles a posh club or restaurant. It's quite spacious for Japanese standards. Once inside, it was easy to sense that this was a real fighter's gym. There was an MMA session under way when we got there with fighters going through an intense circuit training.
The BJJ class was led by Yamaguchi Sensei, who's a second dan in judo from Osaka. It was all about takedowns with a focus on judo for BJJ and a good mix of wrestling and grip fighting. There were so many details being shared, truly an inspiring experience. After solo drills we moved on to partner drilling. Yamaguchi Sensei made sure to work closely with every student, correcting mistakes and giving tips. Great teacher!
At the end of the class I had the chance to roll with all the students. Although there were only blue and white belts, they all showed good technique as is to be expected in any good school in Japan. Some of those guys are experienced wrestlers, it was nice to feel their base, strength and technique applied to BJJ.
