Proper care will extend the life of your Isami gi and help maintain its fit, fabric integrity, and appearance.
Washing & Shrinkage
- Wash separately: Always wash your gi by itself. Do not mix with other clothing.
- Water temperature: Wash at a maximum of 40°C (104°F).
- No bleach: Never use bleach, as it damages the fabric and stitching.
- Shrinkage is normal: Isami gis are not pre-shrunk. Expect some shrinkage over the first 2–3 washes. The gi may feel slightly large at first and then settle into its intended fit.
- Dry cleaning: Dry cleaning is safe if needed.
Drying
+ Use separate hangers for the jacket and pants. + Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight.
+ If using a dryer, stop at approximately 80% dry. + Finish by hang drying in the shade to avoid excessive shrinkage.
- Hang dry (recommended):
- Tumble dryer (use with caution):
Stain Care & Hygiene
- Act quickly on stains: Wash the gi immediately after training if stained—especially with blood—to prevent permanent marks.
- Light squeezing only: Do not wring aggressively. Gently squeeze out excess water before drying.
Ironing
- Iron only if needed: Use a hot steam iron with a damp cloth between the iron and the fabric.
Training Frequency Tip
- Rotate multiple gis: If you train frequently, rotating between multiple gis ensures a fresh uniform for each session and significantly extends the lifespan of each gi.
