This week we bring you Sensei Mauricio Alvarado's KWF Kyokushinkai in wonderful Costa Rica. Sensei Mauricio is a regular customer here at ChokeSports. He's also a renown martial artist in his home country of Costa Rica where he runs a successful dojo offering Kyokushinkai Karate, Fitness Training, Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu to students of all ages.
Hola Sensei Mauricio. When did you first get involved with martial arts?
I started to practice Kyokushinkai when I was 9 years old in 1989.
What is your current rank?
I am 4th Dan in Kyokushinkai.
What keeps you motivated to train martial arts after all these years?
To continue pursuing the true meaning of Osu... perseverance through adversity. Also the constant growth and development of my students is what drives me most to keep on going.
What advice would you give to someone who's just getting started?
To have patience, when you start practicing Kyokushin it is the most beautiful part of your martial arts training.
What are some of the school/student accomplishments you're most proud of and why?
Having placed among the best fighters in International and World Tournaments
What is your goal with the school? Where would you like to see it in 10 years?
I would like to have a lot more new students, and as well spread Kyokushinkai in more dojos across Costa Rica.
