This was the rematch Tenshin earned. Inoue handed him his first professional loss in November 2025, in the same building. Tenshin answered in April by stopping former two-division champion Juan Francisco Estrada, which made him the WBC's mandatory challenger.
The first half belonged to the champion. Inoue worked behind his jab and straight right. After four rounds the open scoring had him ahead on two cards, with the third level at 38-38.
Round seven changed the fight. Tenshin's southpaw left straight landed clean and put Inoue on the canvas. He went for the finish and didn't get it. Inoue came out for round eight on the front foot and won back enough of the late rounds to keep his belt, his second defense.
Two judges scored it 116-111. The third had it 114-113. "I got the knockdown and I don't feel like I lost. I lost at boxing," Tenshin told reporters afterward, as quoted by the Japanese outlet RONSPO.
Where that leaves him as of October 2026: 8-2 with 3 KOs as a boxer at 28, on top of a 42-0 kickboxing career, with both boxing losses coming on points to the same champion. No next fight has been announced.

Shizuka Sugiyama: 18 years, one last real fight
- Date: September 23, 2026
- Event: Pancrase 366, Tachikawa Stage Garden, Tokyo
- Bout: women's 54 kg contract, 3 x 5 minutes
- Result: Sugiyama by unanimous decision (30-27 on all three cards)
- Final record: 25-8-1
Pancrase named it the best bout of the night. Video: Pancrase.
Shizuka announced her retirement in May with a farewell exhibition planned. Then she asked for a real fight. Her pick was Emi Fujino, a longtime friend and training partner, a former Pancrase champion and Shooto's first women's strawweight champion, walking into her 50th MMA bout. "She is the only one who would take my last fight," Shizuka said beforehand.
Fujino did not treat it like a farewell. In round two her right hook put Shizuka on the canvas. Shizuka got straight up, tied her up, and went back to what has worked for 18 years. She took the fight to the mat, climbed to mount behind punches and elbows, and closed the round hammering away from the top. Round three was more takedowns and more control. All three judges had it 30-27.
Then came the ten-count gong, the traditional send-off for a retiring fighter in Japan. "I want to live so that even my eight losses feel like wins," she told the crowd.
She retires at 39 as the reigning Pancrase flyweight champion, a two-time title holder with 25 wins in 34 fights since her debut at Jewels in November 2008. Outside the cage she holds a 2024 Best Body Japan title and a 2025 All Japan BJJ title, and she calls fights for RIZIN as a commentator. Her own sign-off on Instagram was shorter: "Thank you. And good bye cage."
